Arizona Bills Take on Obama's Executive Orders

Brad Fox | March 16, 2015

Republican Representative Bob Thorpe of Flagstaff, Arizona introduced House Bill 2368 which would keep their state from funding any executive orders issued by Obama. It also goes the extra mile and prohibits funding of any policy directive from the Justice Department.

The bill reads as follows from the Arizona Legislature:

Provisions

1.      Prohibits this state or any of its political subdivisions from using any personnel or financial resources to enforce, administer or cooperate with an executive order issued by the President of the U.S. that has not been affirmed by a vote of Congress and signed into law as prescribed by the U.S. Constitution.

2.      Prohibits this state or any of its political subdivisions from using any personnel or financial resources to enforce, administer or cooperate with a policy directive issued by the U.S. DOJ to law enforcement agencies in this state that has not been affirmed by a vote of Congress and signed into law as prescribed by the U.S. Constitution.

Bob Thorpe also introduced House Bill 2058 which blocks state funding for any federal regulations that Congress has not passed.

KVOA News Tucson reports:

"The bill by Republican Rep. Justin Olson of Mesa passed on a 36-21 vote and moves to the senate.

Opponents say the bills will result in expensive lawsuits."

The Arizona Senate has also passed Senate Bill 1330, The Second Amendment Preservation Act, which withdraws state enforcement and support for federal gun laws.

It seems over the last few years, there have been an increasing number of bills that aim at enforcing the current law or simply following the constitution.
