An Atlanta attorney was found guilty this week of stealing more than $7 million in PPP loans - you know, those government handouts the feds were shooting out of t-shirt cannons during COVID to make up for their harebrained and unconstitutional shutdowns, and which ended up resulting in rampant fraud and abuse while everyday Americans still lost their jobs, their businesses, their homes, and even their lives.

Yeah, those.

Turns out Shelitha Robertson was raking in the cash in the form of Paycheck Protection Program giveaways, to the tune of millions of dollars. The court found Robertson and her co-conspirators submitted fake applications for companies they owned back in 2020, including Atlanta Custom Motors, MO Griggs Contracting, Tritan, and The Renee Group. Three out of four companies weren’t even operational at the time they were awarded the cash - not, of course, that the government bothered to check.

Robertson and her friend then lied about the number of employees they had before pulling in nearly $8 million in PPP loan cash for which they knew they weren’t eligible.

Prosecutors said Robertson spent the money on her lavish lifestyle, including buying a Rolls-Royce, a motorcycle, and a 10-carat, $150,000 diamond ring. She also reportedly gave her co-conspirator, Chandra Norton, about $400,000 and transferred $50,000 to her own daughter, who has not been charged with a crime. After being arrested for fraud, she then allegedly threatened to kill Norton as well as a third person who filed a police report.

Nice lady. Who now faces decades behind bars, none of which are made out of diamonds.

So there you have it, folks. Government forcibly shuts down businesses.

Government starts tossing around massive taxpayer-funded checks to fix the problem they created, with zero accountability and no way to make sure the money’s going where it’s intended.

Government then has to spend gobs more taxpayer cash going after all the liars, fraudsters, and thieves who gamed the shoddy system and used it to make themselves rich.

Government wants a pat on the back for doing such a bang-up job.

Maybe government should just recognize that they’re the problem, and shove off.
