You have to be a pretty rotten person so steal something that isn’t yours.

But if you nick a dude’s horse and buggy and make off down the road with it? You suck.

And yet, that’s exactly the situation one Michigan Amish family found themselves in this week when their horse and cart were stolen outside a Walmart while the family shopped. At around 5:30 p.m, the family stepped out of the Sturgis store only to find their ride gone, along with their equestrian helper.

The culprit ended up being a 31-year-old woman who, according to reports, had had at least one run-in with the cops at that same Walmart earlier in the day. The police located the horse and buggy a ways down the road (turns out lifting a buggy attached to a sentient animal doesn't make for a clean and fast getaway) and found the culprit in a nearby motel, where they arrested her without incident. She’s now being held at the local jail on charges of larceny and larceny of livestock. Thankfully, the horse and buggy weren’t damaged and were returned to the family.

In the days of smash-and-grab robberies, rampant violent crime, and leftist pro-criminal laws (or lack thereof), we know we’re in for it when thieves start making off with Amish carts.
