A 16-year-old girl was found dead in her own apartment. And now, police have arrested an illegal alien in connection with her horrific murder.

Lizbeth Medina’s mother, Jacqueline, found her deceased daughter lying in the bathtub in their Edna, Texas home on December 5 after she failed to show up to march in a Christmas parade with her school’s cheerleading squad over the weekend.

“I decided to go look for her. And I kept calling her phone nonstop, and it would take me straight to voicemail…I called a bunch of people and nobody knew anything. It wasn’t until I walked into the restroom that I was on the phone with my friend asking him to come help me look for her – is when I [saw] her foot, and it was in the bathtub. And so I opened the curtains. There she was,” Jacqueline Medina said.

According to reports, the girl was still in her pajamas and had been getting ready for the day when she was killed. No other details about her death have been publicly released.

Now, Edna police said that after “countless hours” investigating the incident, they’ve arrested Rafael Govea Romero, who they identified as an “undocumented male subject.” He was nabbed on Saturday in Schulenburg, Texas, about 75 miles outside of Edna.

“Edna Police Department and Texas Rangers immediately traveled to Schulenburg where Romero was placed under arrest for Capital Murder and transported to Jackson County Jail,” the police said in a statement Sunday. “Although Romero is apprehended, we recognize Lizbeth’s family and friends are grieving and still need support from the community.”

The cops said they identified Romero as a suspect based on security footage, which showed a man in a black Volcom hoodie and a “distinctive tattoo.”

The New York Post said local court documents show a man by that name, presumably the same person, “was also on probation after being arrested by Schulenburg police for an unspecified second-degree felony.”

Lizbeth leaves behind a grieving family and the single mother with whom she shared a home. She was described by her aunt as “outgoing and confident — someone willing to take off her shirt to give it to someone else. She was always there for everybody — charming, young, and full of energy. That was all just cut short.”

Apparently, by someone who shouldn’t have even been in the country in the first place.
