Megan Rapinoe’s time as a member of the United States Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) has come to a screeching halt.
The Americans lost 0-0 (5-4 on penalties) to archrival Sweden in the Round of 16 on Sunday, marking the squad’s worst World Cup-finish in team history. The Americans dominated most aspects of the game for the majority of the 120 minutes of regulation and extra time, but couldn’t find a breakthrough goal.
One of the main storylines surrounding the American side was that star forward and obnoxious social justice warrior Megan Rapinoe would retire from the national team after this tournament’s end. Therefore, it was only fitting that she helped write her own early demise. In the penalty shootout, Rapinoe walked up to the spot with her side up 3-2 in the shootout. If she converted her kick, it would have put the Swedes in a desperate spot. But Rapinoe skied her shot above the crossbar, leaving the door open for Sweden to come back. Sophia Smith and Kelly O’Hara also missed their shots, and Lina Hurtig’s shot barely got across the goal line to give Sweden the win.

"A sick joke," Rapinoe said after missing her shot. "That's why I had that smile on my face. Like, 'You got to be f---ing kidding me. I'm going to miss the penalty?' I honestly can't remember the last time I missed a penalty. Not in a game for a very long time.”
"It's some dark humor, me missing the penalty at the end of this game,” she added.

Donald Trump was quick to celebrate the USWNT’s defeat, claiming that the team’s dedication to wokeness resulted in its defeat.
“The ‘shocking and totally unexpected’ loss by the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team to Sweden is fully emblematic of what is happening to our once great Nation under Crooked Joe Biden,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Many of our players were openly hostile to America – No other country behaved in such a manner, or even close. WOKE EQUALS FAILURE.”
While its a stretch to say that wokeness automatically translates to losses in athletics, I’m sure Trump is not the only one happy the USWNT met an unceremonious end. This generation of USWNT players has openly mocked and consistently hated the country they represent on the world stage, and done so with a level of arrogance unmatched by any American team or league. With Rapinoe and other woke advocates set to retire, it will be a welcome sign to see the USWNT play in tournaments without them present.
Hopefully, the next iteration of the team will be more pro-American and put less of a value on advocating for progressive causes.
