And then you wonder where some kids get their sense of entitlement to a severe lack of accountability.

What am I talking about? Well, on Wednesday, I reported on the two teenagers who “allegedly” intentionally hit 64-year-old retired police chief Andreas Probst with one of four vehicles they stole that day while Probst was riding a bicycle in the Las Vegas area. Oh, and the pair also "allegedly" hit a 72-year-old man as well, but - thankfully - he survived.

Probst didn’t survive the intentional assault with a deadly weapon, and the two teens were in court as a result of their actions this week. Both of their mothers briefly commented on their sons’ heinous actions, with one making an excuse for the results of her evidently crappy parenting.

“My son’s side of the story will be told, ‘the truth,’ not the inaccuracies the media will try to portray,” the passenger, who told the driver to hit Probst, told KLAS-TV, according to The Washington Times.

I’m not naming these boys, to be tried as adults, because screw them. At least the driver’s mother showed a modicum of remorse for her son’s actions.

“I don’t know why he did this,” the driver’s mother said. “I don’t know if God can forgive this.”

You might not like what I’m about to say, but that mother who seems to be making excuses for her “alleged” criminal son can join him in prison. Maybe then she’ll have time to actually do some parenting. I blame her as much, if not more, than I blame her son. She failed.

It might seem cold, but so does running over and killing a man just because. These young men need more than the book thrown at them, if only to let others know that when you act like an animal you’re going to be caged up like one for the rest of your life, if not worse.
