Wasserman Schultz Finds Herself In Heated Primary Battle

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is being challenged for her congressional seat by an increasingly well-funded primary opponent.

Her challenger, Florida professor Tim Canova, raised an impressive $550,000 during the first fundraising quarter of 2016. This includes over 15,000 donations of $20 dollars or less.

Fears that Schultz might be vulnerable led President Obama to take the rare step of publicly endorsing Schultz, prior to her primary election scheduled for later this month.

Schultz has come under fire in recent months for decisions made by the Democratic Party in the heated Democratic presidential primary battle between Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. Many Sanders supporters believe the Democratic Party establishment favors Clinton over Sanders and is actively working to help Clinton secure the nomination.

Since Schultz’s primary duty as DNC chair is to help get Democrats elected, if she were to be defeated herself, it would obviously call her competence into question.
